OBITUARY:

Katherine (Potzka) Skaletsky, a longtime resident of Woburn, passed away Sunday evening, November 4th, comforted by her daughters. The beloved wife of the late Walter E. Skaletsky, she was eighty-eight years of age. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Helen (Crugia) Potzka. Mrs. Skaletsky was raised and educated in the West End of Boston and was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School. Following high school, she attended two years at a business school in Boston.

Shortly after completing her education, Mrs. Skaletsky married her husband, Walter and they made their home in the West End of Boston. They had two daughters and when the younger one turned six years of age, they relocated to the West Side of Woburn where they remained for over fifty years. Kay, as she was well known, was a very quiet, yet strong woman who was totally dedicated to her husband and her daughters throughout her life. During the summer months they vacationed at Lake Winnepesaukee in New Hampshire, where they enjoyed weeks of swimming, boating, and cooking out along with their extended family. Holidays were particularly special in the Skaletsky household as Kay prepared both traditional Polish and American fare. She always maintained a strong sense of ethnic pride in her Polish heritage.

An independent thinker, Mrs Skaletsky was a very bright and articulate woman. She was an avid reader with a primarily focus on history books. On any given day, after completing her daily chores, she could be found curled up on the couch reading. Additionally, she had a very soft spot in her heart for animals and was ardent believer in laws regarding animal rights.

In addition to caring for her family, Mrs. Skaletsky was an employee at Raytheon for over twenty-five years.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Walter E. Skaletsky, who passed away in 1992 and her brothers, Ralph and Joseph Potzka.

She is lovingly survived by her daughters, Joan M. McGrath and her husband Michael of Woburn, Rita H. Gill and her husband Robert of Marshfield, her cherished grandchildren, Stephanie Ambros-Gill, Robert Gill and many loving nieces and nephews
