EDITH S. (MacFADGEN) DALY – in Woburn, June 24th. Beloved wife of the late Capt. William R. Daly of the Somerville Police Department. Devoted mother of Susan Berrigan and her partner Dale Smith of Woburn, William R. Daly, Jr. and his wife Bonita of Stoneham, Kathleen Daly of Lowell, John Daly of Nashua, NH, and Brian Daly and his wife Maria of Marblehead. Former mother-in-law of Thomas Berrigan of Wilmington. Dear sister of Gene MacFadgen of Jefferson, ME, Walter MacFadgen of Saugus, Robert MacFadgen of Wakefield, and the late Frederick MacFadgen, Lois Pennachio and Penny Salines. Loving grandmother of Stanley “Chip” Wood of Lawrence, Thomas and Charlene Berrigan of Woburn, Bill and Daniel of Lowell, John Daly of Woburn, Rachel Daly of Marblehead, and Brandon Daly of Stoneham. Funeral from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Friday, June 29th at 9:15 a.m. Funeral mass in St. Anthony Church, 851 Main Street, Woburn, at 10. Calling hours Thursday 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Interment in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Stoneham.

OBITUARY:

Edith S. Daly, 73, passed away at her home in North Woburn on Sunday, June 24th. She was the wife of the late William R. Daly, who died in 1993.

Mrs. Daly was born in Cambridge, the daughter of the late Frederick and Irma (Vincent) MacFadgen. She grew up in Somerville and graduated from Somerville High School. She continued her education at Holy Ghost Nursing School, where she received a degree as an LPN. Following her marriage, she lived with her family in Somerville before coming to Woburn in 1973. Her late husband was a Captain in the Somerville Police Department.

When the New England Rehabilitation Hospital opened in Woburn in the early 1970’s, she went to work there as a nurse, continuing until her retirement in 1993.

Her greatest joy was derived from spending time with her family, friends, and neighbors. She enjoyed traveling with her family and enjoyed a number of cruises as well as trips to Ireland, Nova Scotia, and Florida. She was devoted to her grandchildren, with whom she delighted in spending time.

Along with her husband William, she was preceded in death by a brother, Frederick MacFadgen, and two sisters, Lois Pennachio and Penny Salines.

Surviving are five children: Susan Berrigan and her partner Dale Smith of Woburn, William R. Daly, Jr. and his wife Bonita of Stoneham, Kathleen Daly of Lowell, John Daly of Nashua, NH, and Brian Daly and his wife Maria of Marblehead, her former son-in-law, Thomas Berrigan of Wilmington, and three brothers, Gene MacFadgen of Jefferson, ME, Walter MacFadgen of Saugus, and Robert MacFadgen of Wakefield.

She was also the loving grandmother of Stanley “Chip” Wood of Lawrence, Thomas and Charlene Berrigan of Woburn, Bill and Daniel of Lowell, John Daly of Woburn, Rachel Daly of Marblehead, and Brandon Daly of Stoneham.

The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Friday, June 29th at 9:15 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Anthony Church, 851 Main Street, Woburn, at 10. Interment will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Stoneham.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

  4. Ruth Perry Piease accept my condolences on Edie’s passing. I worked with Edie at the rehab in Woburn. My husband is a retired detective of the Tewksbury police dept. I am going to try to come to the wake. Ruth Perry

  5. We are so sad to hear about Aunt Edie.

    Although I have not seen her in quite a few years I always have warm thoughts when I think of her.

  6. I am devastated to hear the news about aunt Edie (my godmothers) passing.

    Our thoughts and prayers are with you all and we will be thinking about you through this time. Unfortunately we will not be able to attend as we are out of state.
