OBITUARY:

Ernest J. “Ernie” Bonaddio, 89, of Woburn passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Thursday, May 17th at Winchester Hospital following a long illness. He was the beloved husband of Sandra N. (Anastasi) Bonaddio for nearly sixty-three years.

Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Joseph and Josephine (Solomone) Bonaddio. He studied business at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army and was the recipient of a Purple Heart. Following his honorable discharge in 1944, he took up residence in Cambridge and married Sandra, to whom he was devoted. They made their home on Fisher Terrace in Woburn where they raised their daughter. The family enjoyed vacations every summer, sightseeing throughout the entire United States, and sailing on cruises to Bermuda and the Bahamas. They also summered in Hampton Beach and the White Mountains of New Hampshire for many years, and took their grandchildren to Disney World. In more recent years, he joined the Senior Citizens group on many travels.

He enjoyed all types of sports throughout his life, but he particularly enjoyed bowling and gardening, taking great pride in his lawn, which he worked on tirelessly. He was also an avid reader. Although his first loyalty was to the Pittsburgh Steelers, he was an avid Patriots fan and held season tickets for a number of years.

Mr. Bonaddio worked as a sales representative for Paine Furniture in Boston for more than thirty-seven years until his retirement in 1983.

A very personable man, he had a magnetic personality. A wonderful husband and father, he was devoted to his daughter and his grandchildren, never missing an event in which one of them was involved.

Preceding him in death were two brothers, Anthony and Louis Bonaddio, and three sisters, Victoria Vanucci, Beatrice Tollan, Stella Hutchins, and Vera Roberts.

Along with his wife Sandra, he leaves his daughter, Janice T. Chisholm and her husband David of Woburn, and two grandchildren, Jaclyn T. and Donald E. Chisholm.

The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Monday, May 21st, at 9:45 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Anthony Church, 851 Main Street, Woburn, at 10:30. Interment will follow in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be on Sunday 4 to 8 p.m.

Donations may be made in Ernie’s memory to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
