OBITUARY:

Estelle (Kengo) Sutherby passed away at the Lahey Clinic on Tuesday, May 8th, with her family at her side, after a very brief illness. She was the beloved wife of George Sutherby. Born in Lexington, she was the daughter of the late Antun and Latica (Ayer) Kenego.

She was raised in Somerville and was a graduate of St. John’s High School in North Cambridge in 1947. During her senior year in high school she worked in the Five and Ten, where she first met George. They began dating and have been married for over fifty-six years.

When they married in 1951 they began their family and lived in Dorchester and Somerville briefly, moving to Woburn in 1957. Together they raised eight children. She was actively involved with her children in school and outside with all of their activities. Each summer the entire family would go off to Lake Ossippee where all of the family, aunts, uncles, and cousins would meet and celebrate summer. During the spring and fall the family would also go down to the Mystic Lakes where they would enjoy family cookouts.

Mrs. Sutherby always enjoyed playing Beano, and after her children were in school she began working at Blindstrumbs in Boston and later Suffolk Downs in their dining facility. She became an avid fan of the horse races and enjoyed her time spent there. She was also quite a card player and that is something that she and her entire family would play following a wonderful meal.

Very much a traditionalist, Mrs. Sutherby celebrated every holiday in her home surrounded by her children and then later her grandchildren. She held her family very dear to her heart and when any opportunity presented itself to spend time with her children or grandchildren she was right there.

Mrs. Sutherby was predeceased by her parents, her brother John E. Kenego, her sister, Genevieve Eldracher and her great-granddaughter Brianna Sullivan.

In addition to her husband George she is survived by her children, Judith Myers of VA, William Sutherby and his wife Robin of Shirley, Jean Sullivan of Woburn, Janet Marshall and her husband Michael of NH, Edward Sutherby and his wife Cathy of Ipswich, Joseph Sutherby and his wife Robin of Woburn, Kenneth Sutherby and his wife Donna of Bradford and Jon Sutherby of Woburn. She was also the devoted grandmother of seventeen grandchildren.

A Funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Saturday, May 12th at 10:45 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Barbara’s Church, 138 Cambridge Road, Woburn at 11:30. Interment will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Stoneham.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Donations may be made in Mrs. Sutherby’s memory to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
