CARLO C. SEVERO – in Woburn, May 1st. Beloved husband of the late V. Lillian (DiForte) Severo. Devoted father of Carlo C. Severo, Jr. and his wife Marie of N. Billerica and Sandra Battaglia and her husband Ronald of Woburn. Dear brother of Fred and Gerald Severo, both of Woburn, Rose Picarello of Paramus, NJ, and the late Flora Severo, Angie Cavignano, and Samuel Severo. Loving grandfather of Lori Severo, John Lampassi and his wife Wendi, and Stephanie Benavides and her husband Joe, and great-grandfather of Danielle Kozelian and Jack and Caroline Benavides. OBITUARY:

Carlo C. Severo, a resident of Woburn’s West Side for over fifty years, passed away here early Tuesday, May 1st, at the age of 93. He was the beloved husband of the late V. Lillian (DiForte) Severo, who died in 1989.

Carlo was born and raised in East Boston, son of the late Severio and Rose (DiFuria) Severo. A gifted athlete as a young man, he played football for the East Boston Wanderers and was also a member of several baseball teams. He studied drafting at Wentworth Institute, and served in the 26th Division of the National Guard in the 1930’s. He took up residence with his family in Woburn in 1955.

Carlo was the founder of Metal Letters Corporation, a signage business based in Wakefield which he operated along with his brother Fred for many years.

He maintained a love of music throughout his life and was a talented singer and bass player. Occasionally he played along with his brother Fred, also a musician, at venues in the Boston area as well as at special events.

Active in St. Barbara’s Parish, he served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years. He held membership in the Knights of Columbus Council 77 and the St. Anthony Charitable Club, and in in earlier years belonged to the Gaetano Bruno Society, a charitable organization in East Boston.

Along with his wife Lillian, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Flora Severo and Angie Cavignano, a brother, Samuel Severo, and his dear friend, Anne DeLuca.

Surviving are a son, Carlo C. Severo, Jr. and his wife Marie of N. Billerica, a daughter, Sandra Battaglia and her husband Ronald of Woburn, two brothers, Fred and Gerald Severo, both of Woburn, and a sister, Rose Picarello of Paramus, NJ. He was also the loving grandfather of Lori Severo, John Lampassi and his wife Wendi, and Stephanie Benavides and her husband Joe, and great-grandfather of Danielle Kozelian and Jack and Caroline Benavides.

The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Saturday, May 5th at 9:15 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Barbara’s Church, 138 Cambridge Rd., Woburn, at 10. Interment will follow in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.

Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m.
