OBITUARY:

Eleanor V. Comeiro, 84, a lifelong Woburn resident, passed away at her home here on Monday, April 16th, after having been ill for the past year. She was the wife of the late Anthony S. Comeiro, who died in 1990.

Born and raised in Woburn, she was one of nine children of the late Fred and Joanne (Rice) Leonardis. She remained close to her family throughout her life, often traveling with one or more of her sisters to Atlantic City or Branson, Missouri.

Eleanor was a familiar figure in the South End of Woburn as an employee of Greene’s Diner for more than fifteen years. Later she worked as a nurse’s aide for many years at the Woburn Nursing Center on Frances Street. Eleanor made many friendships throughout her working years and loved interacting with everyone she met.

In recent weeks her goal was to attend her granddaughter’s wedding, which took place this past weekend. Although unable to attend the ceremony, she “made the day” when she was able to take part in the preparations for the event and give her good wishes to the bride before she left for the church.

Her life was dedicated to her family. A wonderful mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother, she never missed a function for any one of her grandchildren. Eleanor enjoyed crocheting as a pastime and presented many blankets to her loved ones as gifts.

In addition to her husband Tony, she was preceded in death by four sisters: Mary Bavuso, Angelina Ayer, Grace Perotta, and Rose Sarno, and three brothers: Anthony, Edward, and Stephen Leonardis.

Surviving are two sons, Anthony Comeiro, Jr. of Dunedin, FL and Kenneth J. Comeiro and his wife Maureen of Woburn, and a sister, Margie Richardson of Woburn. She was the loving grandmother of six grandchildren: Tony, Nicole and Tanya Comeiro, Ken, Jr. and Mark Comeiro and Mary Johnson, and three great-grandchildren: Samantha, Nicholas & Sophia.

The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Thursday, April 19th at 9:15 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Anthony Church, 851 Main Street, Woburn, at 10.

Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Woburn.

Donations may be made in Eleanor’s memory to the VNA of Middlesex East and Visiting Nurse Hospice, 607 North Avenue, Suite 17, Wakefield, MA 01880.
