OBITUARY:

Salvatore F. Buttaro of Woburn passed away on Wednesday, March 21st at the age of eighty-seven. He was the beloved husband of Marie Jo (Buttaro) Buttaro.

Mr. Buttaro was born in Cambridge, son of the late John and Jennie (Miele) Buttaro. He was a graduate of Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School, and continued his education at Northeastern University.

From the time of World War II until 1963, he worked as an electronics supervisor for the Boston Naval Shipyard. He then went to work for the General Services Administration as a communications specialist, working on government buildings and properties. He retired in 1970. During his tenure with the US Government, he received numerous citations and awards for innovations in systems and safety procedures.

Sal, as he was known to friends and family, worked hard all his life. His interest in construction led him to design and build several homes and, for a number years, he worked alongside his son John in his construction business. He also spent a great deal of time tending to the vegetables and plants he grew in his yard.

Preceding him in death were three brothers: Claudio J., Mario J., and Raymond A. Buttaro.

Surviving are his wife Marie, his son, John A. Buttaro and his wife Laurel, and daughter Joanne M. Buttaro, all of Woburn. He was also the dear brother of Mary Dora Sortino of Woburn, and loving grandfather of Jenny Alice Buttaro of Boston.

The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Saturday, March 24th at 9:15 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main St., Woburn, at 10. Interment will take place in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.

Calling hours at the funeral home are on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.
