OBITUARY:

Virginia L. “Ginny” Canty of Woburn passed away at Winchester Hospital early Saturday, March 18th, following a lengthy illness. The wife of the late John Canty, who died in 1974, she was seventy-eight years of age.

Born in Somerville, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Virginia (McKenna) Moore. She was raised in Medford and graduated from Medford High School. Mrs. Canty had made her home on Woburn’s West Side for the past fifty years.

After her husband died unexpectedly at an early age, “Ginny,” as she was known to family and friends, was left to raise their five children alone. Her life was devoted to their care and she made sure they never went without. Throughout her life, her first concern was always the well-being of others. In her later years she loved spending time with her grandchildren and, in her leisure time, enjoyed reading and keeping up with the “Law and Order” programs on television.

Surviving are her five children: Thomas J. and his wife Jane of Westford, Richard A. and his wife Marie of Bradford, James R. and his wife Nancy of Woburn, Patricia L. O’Neill and her husband Dan of Tewksbury, and Joanne Harkins and her husband Scott of Methuen, two brothers, Joseph Moore of Georgia and Robert Moore of Woburn.

She was also the loving grandmother of Dennis, Brendan, Ryan, and Colin Canty, Stephanie, Andrea, and Brian Canty, McKenna Canty, Jack O’Neill, and Emily and Natalie Harkins.

Her funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Wednesday, March 21st at 10:15 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Barbara’s Church, 138 Cambridge Road, Woburn, at 11. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Donations may be made in Ginny’s memory to Winchester Hospital, c/o Development Office, 41 Highland Ave., Winchester, MA 01890.
