JULIA A. (CROWLEY) BIELER – in Woburn, Saturday, March 10th, beloved wife of Leo W. Bieler. Devoted mother of Susan Szabelski and her husband Carl of MI, Patricia A. Bieler of CA, Maryellen Phelps and her husband William of AZ, Richard Bieler and his wife Mona of NH, Leo W. Bieler III and his wife Jill of Tewksbury, Margaret Coughlin and her husband John of Auburn and Christine Scott and her husband Gordon of Mendon. Dear sister of the late William Crowley and Helen Donovan. Loving grandmother of twelve grandchildren. A Funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn on Thursday, March 15th at 10:30 a.m., followed by Funeral Mass in St. Joseph’s Church, 100 Washington Street, Woburn at 11:30. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn. Donations may be made in Mrs. Bieler’s memory to a charity of one’s choice.

OBITUARY:

Julia A. Bieler, of Woburn, formerly of Arlington, passed away on Saturday, March 10th , at Winchester Hospital. The beloved wife of Leo W. Bieler Jr., she was eighty- four years of age. Born in Boston, Julia was the daughter of the late William and Mary (Haskin) Crowley. She was raised and educated in Dorchester and was a graduate of Dorchester High School for Girls. Following high school, Julia worked at Western Union for a number of years as a teletype operator. In 1953, she married her beloved husband Leo and together they devoted themselves to raising seven children. Julia was very involved with her children as they were growing up and was especially involved with the Girl Scouts. A very close knit family, the Bieler’s loved being together and walking was one of their favorite activities. In her leisure , Julia enjoyed reading which included a wide variety of topics. After her children were grown, Julia resumed her working career at Bay Bank. In later years, the family enjoyed traveling across the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii, Ireland and a family trip to Disney World in FL. Julia and Leo were blessed with twelve grandchildren whom they cherished. Despite the fact that their children reside in different states across the country, they still remain very close and were all together in December of 2004 when they had a most memorable and wonderful gathering. The family moved to Arlington in 1963, where they resided until 1990 when they relocated to East Woburn .

Julia was predeceased by her siblings, William Crowley and Helen Donovan.

She is survived by her husband, Leo W. Bieler Jr., to whom she was devoted for over fifty-three years, her children, Susan Szabelski and her husband Carl of MI, Patricia A. Bieler of CA, Maryellen Phelps and her husband William of AZ, Richard Bieler and his wife Mona of NH, Leo W. Bieler III and his wife Jill of Tewksbury, Margaret Coughlin and her husband John of Auburn and Christine Scott and her husband Gordon of Mendon and twelve cherished grandchildren.
