RUTH V. (VALCOUR) NILSSON – in Woburn, February 7th. Beloved wife of the late Hilbert W. Nilsson. Devoted mother of Elaine M. Murphy and her husband James, Patricia A. Haley and her husband Paul, Mary E. Cain and her husband Mark, and Hilbert W. “Hibby” Nilsson, Jr., all of Woburn, Peter C. Nilsson and his wife Patricia of Mashpee, and the late John J. Nilsson. Dear sister of Helen McMahon and Mary Connors, both of Woburn, Charles Valcour of FL, and the late Joseph Valcour. Also survived by 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Monday, February 12th at 9:15 a.m. Funeral mass in St. Joseph’s Church, 100 Washington Street, Woburn, at 10. Calling hours Sunday 4 to 8 p.m. Interment in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Donations may be made in Ruth’s memory to the VNA Middlesex East & Visiting Nurse Hospice, 607 North Avenue, Suite 17, Wakefield, MA 01880.

OBITUARY:

Ruth V. Nilsson, a lifelong Woburn resident, passed away peacefully at her home late Wednesday, February 7th, surrounded by her family. The wife of the late Hilbert W. Nilsson, who died in 1979, she was eighty-three years of age.

Born in Woburn, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Robinson) Valcour. She graduated from St. Charles High School with the class of 1942.

Ruth was a true home-maker in every sense of the word. Her priority was her family, and she especially loved to entertain family and friends at her home. A tradition in her home was the Saturday night Scrabble game with her children. She also enjoyed regular trips to Foxwoods with her sisters, watching old movies on TV, and working on crossword puzzles.

Preceding her in death, along with her husband, were a son, John J. Nilsson, and a brother, Joseph Valcour.

Surviving are five children: Elaine M. Murphy and her husband James, Patricia A. Haley and her husband Paul, Mary E. Cain and her husband Mark, and Hilbert W. “Hibby” Nilsson, Jr., all of Woburn, and Peter C. Nilsson and his wife Patricia of Mashpee. She also leaves two sisters, Helen McMahon and Mary Connors, both of Woburn, a brother, Charles Valcour of Florida, and was the beloved grandmother of 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Monday, February 12th at 9:15 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Joseph’s Church, 100 Washington Street, Woburn, at 10. Interment will follow in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.

Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m.

  2. Mary,Mark and all the Nilsson family please accept our deepest sympathy. When I lived on Murray Rd I had the honor to meet and talk with your Mom several times. Being a survivor myself her and I felt something special we laughed and cried. Thank you for letting me have those special moments with your Mom.
