OBITUARY:

Ray M. Whitten, 91, passed away on Sunday, February 4th, at the Lexington Healthcare Center, of which he was a resident for the past ten years.

Born in Everett, he was the son of the late Ray M. and Georgiana (Corrigan) Whitten. He was raised in Wakefield and graduated from Kents Hill Prep School in Maine, a school he attended for four years and of which he had many fond memories. A veteran of World War II, he served in the US Army in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations.

After having lived in Everett, Melrose, and Wakefield, he took up residence in Cocoa, Florida, where he remained for thirty years before returning to the Boston area.

Mr. Whitten worked for Eastern Airlines in Boston and later in Miami. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Melrose and in Florida, and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans in Florida. An avid Red Sox fan throughout his life, he was thrilled to have been able to witness two World Series championships.

Until recent weeks, he was very involved in the activities at his residence. He served as president of the Residents Council at Lexington Healthcare for several years and maintained many friendships there. He enjoyed time spent with his family and delighted in their visits.

Surviving are two daughters, RuthAnn Whitten and her husband Joe Wallace of Weymouth, and Susan Clark and her husband Brian of Winchester, a son, Joe Kozlowski and his wife Nancy of Florida, and three grandchildren: Kate and Lauren Clark and Beth Wallace.

He was the former husband of Ann L. Conroy of Melrose, and leaves many dear friends at the Lexington Healthcare Center.

Memorial services will be held at a time to be announced later. There are no calling hours.

Donations may be made in Ray’s memory to Kents Hill School, 1614 Main Street, P.O. Box 257, Kents Hill, Maine 04349.
