CATHERINE G. (GILLIS) QUIRK – in Stoneham, formerly of Holyoke, January 8th. Beloved wife of the late James J. Quirk. Devoted mother of Judith E. DeMartin and Catherine H. Norton, both of Florida. Dear sister of the late Ronald Gillis and Marie Shea. Also survived by six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held in the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Friday, January 12th at 11:30 a.m. with the Rev. Deryk Richenburg officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home Friday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., prior to the service. Interment will be in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.

OBITUARY:

Catherine G. Quirk, a longtime resident of Holyoke and a former registered nurse, passed away on Monday, January 8th, following a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late James J. Quirk, who died in 1965, and mother of former Woburn resident Judith DeMartin.

Born in Holyoke, Catherine was the daughter of the late Andrew and Catherine (Howard) Gillis. She received her degree as a registered nurse from St. Vincent’s City Hospital in New York. During World War II she worked in the Springfield Armory, and later worked for many years in Holyoke hospitals and nursing homes.

She was a member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary.

She had made her home in Stoneham in recent years.

In addition to her husband James, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Gillis, and a sister, Marie Shea.

Surviving are two daughters, Judith E. DeMartin and Catherine H. Norton, both of Florida, six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
