OBITUARY:

Kathleen F. (O’Donnell) Barbas passed away on Thursday, December 28th, after a very brief illness. The devoted wife of John A Barbas, she was sixty-six years of age.

Born in Woburn, she was the daughter of the late Albert J. and Doris (Ward) O’Donnell. She attended Woburn Public Schools and was a graduate of Woburn High School Class of 1957.

Following High School she began working for the New England Telephone and Telegraph Company and there she became involved in sales and marketing. This was a career she held for over thirty years. and traveled through out the state.

In 1962 she married John A. Barbas, with whom she shared over forty-four years. Together they raised their son Arthur, who was their pride and joy, participating in his school events and athletic accomplishments. They also spent a lot of time in Vermont where the peace, solace and serenity of the mountains was a wonderful place to share together and with their extended family.

Her love of animals was endless, taking care of feeding the birds both here and in Vermont, her favorite being the hummingbird, with her dogs Abby and Kato always at her side. “Kay” as she was affectionately known by all, was a very kind, gentle woman, who often times put others needs ahead of her own. She exhibited a wonderful flair in the kitchen, cooking, baking, preserving, making jellies, minced meat and much more. She would share all of her homemade delicacies with her friends and family and had an understating with all, that if the jars were returned, they would be refilled.

When she was diagnosed with the terminal illness that took her life on Thursday, she faced it with great courage and a wonderful attitude. Knowing that she had but a short time, she felt her life was full and that she had accomplished what she needed to and the anticipation of her first grandchild arriving at the beginning of January was very dear to her heart.

In addition to her parents Kay was predeceased by her two sisters Patricia L. Peery and Eileen O’Donnell
