OBITUARY:

Robert W. “Bob” Pinkham Sr., a longtime resident of Woburn, formerly of Medford, passed away Sunday, December 17th at Winchester Hospital. The beloved husband of Barbara A. (Johnston) Pinkham, he was seventy-eight years of age. Born in Everett, Bob, as he was affectionately known, was the son of the late Frederick and Margaret (Fleming) Pinkham. He was raised and attended school in Medford, where he was a graduate of Medford Vocational High School. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Army where he served in the Philippines during WWII. Upon his return home, he found work in the construction business for a brief time before taking a position with Salvi Ford as a skilled mechanic and remained with the company for twenty five years. After leaving Salvi Ford, Bob was employed by the City of Medford and spent the next twenty five years working for their Highway Department until his retirement in 1994. In addition to his expertise in auto mechanics, he was also a talented carpenter. He built everything from furniture and kitchen cabinets to bird cages and rabbit hutches which came in very handy since the Pinkhams had several parakeets and rabbits.

In April of 1957, Bob married his beloved wife, Barbara, to whom he was devoted for forty-nine years. Together they made their home in Woburn, raised two children and cared for a host of animals, including ducks, chickens and rabbits. His kind and gentle nature extended beyond his family to all living creatures. As an avid hunter and fisherman, he possessed a tremendous respect for nature and animals. His son would often accompany him on hunting trips to NH as well as salt water fishing in the waters off of Newburyport. Since Bob owned his own boat, he and his family were able to enjoy numerous family outings. Bob was a quiet, unassuming gentleman, whose greatest pleasures were the company of his family in the comfort of their home and the many memorable adventures they shared throughout the years.

Bob is survived by his wife, Barbara A. (Johnston) Pinkham, his children, Doreen Pinkham of Woburn and Robert W. Pinkham Jr. and his wife Sheri of Weare, NH, his siblings, Frederick Pinkham Jr. of Malden, Joan Pinkham Conti of Stoneham, Edward Pinkham of Malden and Shirley Schiavi of Wilbraham, his cherished granddaughter, Lindsay and many loving nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a Funeral Service at the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Thursday, December 21st at 2 p.m. A calling hour will be held prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. Interment is private. Donations may be made in Mr. Pinkham’s memory to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place West, Floor 6, Brookline, MA 02445.
