OBITUARY:

Joel McCarron, a lifelong Woburn resident, passed away in Winchester on Thursday, December 7th, following a brief illness. He was sixty-eight years of age.

Born and raised in Woburn, Joel was the son of the late James H. McCarron and Helen (Porter) McCarron Livingstone. He was a 1955 graduate of Woburn High School and attended Norwich University, a school to which he maintained his ties over the years.

In his early years, Mr. McCarron worked for Sunoco Oil delivering gasoline, and later worked for Lukie’s Sunoco in Woburn. He then started a home delivery heating oil business, Innitou Oil, which he operated successfully until selling the business in 1979. He was a familiar figure in the Campbell Street area and was well known for his excellent service.

A naturally gifted musician, he loved playing the piano. His talent for playing by ear led him to sit down at the piano wherever he might be, entertaining with his music to the delight of anyone who might be there.

An avid football fan, he loved the Patriots and enjoyed sharing his thoughts on their successes and failures over the years. He was a daily visitor for over twenty years to Cousins Restaurant in Woburn Center, where he had many friends. Mr. McCarron was also a member of the Towanda Club in Woburn.

His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren, who were very special to him.

He was the beloved father of Edwin P. McCarron and his wife Maureen of Groton, Michael D. McCarron and his wife Debbie of Woburn, and Allison H. Johnson and her husband Bill of Andover, dear brother of Philip McCarron of Shelburne, NH, and loving grandfather of Eddie, Brian, and Rachel McCarron, Danielle and Michael McCarron, and Porter and Alex Johnson. He also leaves his former wife, Alicia (Cody) McCarron.

A graveside service will be held at Woodbrook Cemetery, 100 Salem Street, Woburn, on Monday, December 11th at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Deryk Richenburg officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

Calling hours will be at the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m.

Donations may be made in Joel’s memory to Cousins Restaurant, 467 Main Street, Woburn, MA 01801, to benefit the waitstaff there, who were his friends for many years.

    Phil,
Just read the news about Joel. I,ve been gone 33 years from Woburn but still remember the “boys” at Lukies ( only good times). Joel had his one way of doing things but he sure did make you laugh . Hope all is well with you.
