OBITUARY:

Marie J. Simon, a longtime resident of Woburn’s West Side, passed away at her home Tuesday morning, November 28th, after an illness of several months. She was the beloved wife of John G. Simon, with whom she celebrated fifty-six years of marriage this past Sunday, November 26th.

Marie was born in Cambridge seventy-nine years ago, daughter of the late Orrin J. and Lillian (Lyons) Robinson. Following her graduation from Cambridge High and Latin in 1946, she worked at Columbian National Life Insurance in Boston until retiring to raise her family.

Since 1955 she and her family resided on Woburn’s West Side, where she was very involved in St. Barbara’s Church. She devoted a great deal of time to the church, taking the responsibility of cleaning and setting up the altar for Mass.

Marie, her husband and children so enjoyed traveling together. They would frequently ski at Mt. Sunapee, Black Mountain, and many other areas throughout New England. One year they all traveled to Switzerland to ski and tour the country. They also enjoyed trips to Disney World in California, and drove from one coast to the other, touring all along the way. When her children were young Mrs. Simon enjoyed sewing their clothes, making dresses, coats and various other items. Mrs. Simon also took great pride in her yard, with strategically placing each and ever plant and shrub.

Marie and her sister Lillian, to whom she was very close, frequently took auto trips together. She loved singing and most especially, shopping. Her grandchildren were a delight to her, and she could often be found arm wrestling, painting, or doing puzzles with them.

Preceding her in death was a brother, Orrin Robinson.

Along with her beloved husband John, she leaves three daughters, Jeanne M. Hudson and her husband Robert of Tewksbury, Dianne L. Williamson and her husband Stephen of Sudbury and Lorrin E. Ferlisi and her husband Vincent R. of Woburn, her sister, Lillian F. Lalumiere and her husband Albert of Medford, and her grandchildren, Carla Ferlisi, Scott Hudson, Julie Hudson, Christopher Williamson, Amanda Ferlisi and Andrew Hudson. The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Friday, December 1st at 9 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Barbara’s Church, 138 Cambridge Road, Woburn at 10. Interment will follow in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.

Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Donations may be made in Mrs. Simon’s memory to Hospice Care Inc., 100 Sylvan Road, Woburn, MA 01801.
