Mary K. Millyan, a longtime resident of Winchester, passed away at Merrimack Valley Hospital in Haverhill Wednesday evening, August 16th, following a brief illness. The wife of the late Thomas D. Millyan, who died twelve years ago, she was eighty-four.
Born and educated in Charlestown, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary Kelle. She made her home in Winchester from 1950 until 2002, when she took up residence with her daughter-in-law Jane and granddaughter Andrea in Methuen following the death of her son Thomas.
A loving, compassionate woman, she was devoted to her family. She loved to cook and her homemade soups were especially popular with her family and friends. A favorite pastime was Bingo, which she played for many years, and she was an avid reader. She was a fun-loving woman who took great pleasure in spending time with her grandchildren, particularly her granddaughter Andrea, with whom she lived the past several years.
In addition to her husband Thomas D. Millyan, she was preceded in death by her son Thomas Millyan, a brother, William, and two sisters, Rita and Alice.
Surviving are two sons, Walter Smith of Tennessee and William Smith of Alabama, her daughter-in-law, Jane L. Millyan of Methuen, and her grandchildren, Andrea and Thomas Millyan. She was also the loving great-grandmother of Madison Millyan.
