JEANNE E. (TILLSON) O’CONNELL – in Woburn, June 28th. Beloved wife of the late Edward J. O’Connell. Devoted mother of Robert S. O’Connell and his wife Barbara of Mansfield, Christine D. Spinale and her husband Joseph of Woburn, Deborah A. Hogan and her husband Kevin of Chelmsford, and Paul W. and his wife Celia of Porter, TX. Dear sister of Katherine McCarthy of Bow, NH. Loving grandmother of Katherine and Alison O’Connell, Brian Flynn, Joseph and Stephanie Spinale, and Laura Hogan. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Saturday, July 1st, at 10:15 a.m. Funeral mass in St. Barbara’s Church, 138 Cambridge Rd., Woburn, at 11. Calling hours Friday 4 to 8 p.m. Interment in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.

OBITUARY:

Jeanne E. O’Connell, a longtime resident of Woburn’s West Side, passed away at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington on Wednesday, June 28th. The wife of the late Edward J. O’Connell, who died in 2002, she was 76.

The daughter of the late Paul and Rose (Hood) Tillson, she was raised and educated in Cambridge. A 1947 graduate of Cambridge High and Latin, she met her husband Edward in school. Together they took up residence in Woburn in 1957 and raised their family here.

She worked briefly for Bay Bank in Burlington after her children were grown, but her life was devoted to her family. She enjoyed cooking and made the holidays particularly special for her children and grandchildren. Jeanne loved to travel and enjoyed many vacations with her family. One of her hobbies was genealogy, and she dedicated many hours to thoroughly investigating her ancestors. She also enjoyed reading, particularly non-fiction and historical novels.

Her greatest joy in life was her grandchildren. She loved caring for them, frequently taking them to the beach and to the movies.

Surviving are four children, Robert S. O’Connell and his wife Barbara of Mansfield, Christine D. Spinale and her husband Joseph of Woburn, Deborah A. Hogan and her husband Kevin of Chelmsford, and Paul W. and his wife Celia of Porter, Texas, her sister, Katherine McCarthy of Bow, New Hampshire, and six grandchildren, Katherine and Alison O’Connell, Brian Flynn, Joseph and Stephanie Spinale, and Laura Hogan. She also leaves several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Saturday, July 1st, at 10:15 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Barbara’s Church, 138 Cambridge Road, Woburn, at 11. Interment will take place in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.

Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.
