A. WILLIAM “BILL” MACDONALD, JR. – in Winchester, Friday, April 7th, beloved husband of Janet (Barnard) MacDonald. Devoted father of William A. MacDonald and his wife Lynne of Braintree, James D. MacDonald and his wife Kathy of Tyngsboro, Carey MacDonald of Danvers and Gary E. MacDonald of Leominster. Dear brother of Mary E. Connelly of Woburn. Loving grandfather of Meredith, Allison, Ronald and Daniel. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a Funeral Service at the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Tuesday, April 11th at 11 a.m. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment in Wildwood Cemetery, Winchester. Donations may be made in Bill’s memory to the Alzheimers Assoc., 36 Cameron Ave., Cambridge, MA 02140.

OBITUARY:

A. William “Bill??? MacDonald, Jr., a lifelong resident of Winchester, passed away quietly on Friday, April 7th, at the Walden Nursing Center in Concord. The beloved husband of Janet (Barnard) MacDonald, he was seventy-two years of age. Born in Winchester, he was the son of the late Augustine and Mary E. (Looney) MacDonald. Educated in the Winchester Public Schools, Bill as he was affectionately known, was a graduate of Winchester High School, Class of 1951. Following graduation, Bill enlisted in the United States Army to serve his country during the Korean War and additionally served in a Military Police Reserve Unit. Upon completion of his military duties, Bill returned to Winchester where he secured employment as a mechanic with Bonnell Ford for several years before accepting a position with the Town of Winchester Parks Department. He worked the remainder of his career with the Town of Winchester before retiring thirteen years ago.

On December 18th, 1957, Bill married his high school sweetheart, Janet Barnard to whom he was devoted for forty-eight years. They made their home in Winchester where together they raised four children. He followed his children’s school and extracurricular activities as they were growing up. As a family they vacationed each summer at Hampton Beach, a tradition they still enjoy. Bill and his wife also enjoyed traveling to Atlantic City, Hawaii and most especially their “weekly dinner dates???, which took them to many different restaurants throughout New England. While at home, Bill loved to maintain their property and was particular about maintaining his lawn. His passions also included working on automobiles and following Red Sox Baseball. In later years, the MacDonalds were blessed with four grandchildren and Bill cherished every moment he spent with them.

Bill is lovingly survived by his wife, Janet (Barnard) MacDonald, his children, William A. MacDonald and his wife Lynne of Braintree, James D. MacDonald and his wife Kathy of Tyngsboro, Carey MacDonald of Danvers and Gary E. MacDonald of Leominster, his sister, Mary E. Connelly of Woburn and four cherished grandchildren, Meredith, Allison, Ronald and Daniel.
