JAMES R. “TINY??? WOOLARD – in Woburn, February 25th. Beloved husband of the late Marilyn R. (Touchette) Netishen Woolard and the late Antonette (Shelzi) Woolard. Devoted father of Daniel R. Woolard and his wife Denise of Woburn and the late James R. Woolard, Jr. Father-in-law of Beverly Woolard of Chelmsford. Loving grandfather of Jacquelyn, Candace, Kiley, Ryan, Courtney, Shelagh, Brian, Jeff, and Tricia, and great-grandfather of Jared and Jaiden. Also survived by several stepchildren, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Funeral from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Tuesday, February 28th, at 10:30 a.m. Funeral mass in St. Barbara’s Church, 138 Cambridge Road, Woburn, at 11. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home Tuesday morning from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Interment in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn. Donations may be made in Jim’s memory to the Sawtelle Family Hospice House, 320 Haverhill Street, Reading, MA 01867.

OBITUARY:

James R. Woolard, a longtime resident of Woburn’s West Side, passed away at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading Saturday evening, February 25th, following an illness of several months. He was the husband of the late Marilyn R. (Touchette) Netishen Woolard, who died less than three months ago. Previously he had been married to the late Antoinette (Shelzi) Woolard.

Mr. Woolard was born in Waresboro, Georgia eighty-six years ago, son of the late George O. and Allie M. (Lewis) Woolard. He was raised in Lebanon, Tennessee and completed high school and college there. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Navy.

After completing his military duty, he married and settled with his family in Woburn. For a few years he worked for Eastern Mass. Bus Lines, and later became affiliated with John Hancock Insurance Company, where he was a sales representative for many years. He retired twenty years ago.

Although he was well over six feet tall, he was affectionately known as “Tiny” throughout his life. He was a lifelong member of the Woburn Lodge of Elks and earlier years held membership in the George Campbell Post 101 American Legion.

In addition to his wife Marilyn and his first wife Antonette, he was preceded in death by a son, James R. Woolard, Jr., and several brothers and sisters.

Surviving are a son, Daniel R. Woolard and his wife Denise of Woburn, his daughter-in-law, Beverly Woolard of Chelmsford, nine grandchildren, Jacquelyn, Candace, Kiley, Ryan, Courtney, Shelagh, Brian, Jeff, and Tricia, two great-grandchildren, Jared and Jaiden, and several stepchildren, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Tuesday, February 28th, at 10:30 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Barbara’s Church, 138 Cambridge Road, Woburn, at 11. Interment will take place in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.

Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home Tuesday morning from 9 to 10:30 a.m.

  1. Dear Danny and Family: It is with great sadness to read about your Dad. I haven’t seen him in years, but I remember him as a child at my house with my parents. He was a wonderful man. My heart goes out to you and your family.
