O’Connor – in Woburn, Friday, January 27th, Charles E., beloved husband of Mary E. (McDermott) O’Connor. Devoted father of the late Charlotte R. Chute and father-in-law of Roy Chute of Winchester. Cherished grandfather of Cheryl Meaney, James, Kristen and Charles Chute and Elizabeth Fishlin, all of Woburn, and eight great-grandchildren. Loving uncle of Robert O’Connor of Plymouth. A Funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn on Monday, January 30th at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Barbara’s Church, 138 Cambridge Road, Woburn at 10. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. Interment in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn. Donations may be made in Charlie’s memory to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701. WWII Army Veteran

OBITUARY:

Charles E. O’Connor , a longtime resident of Woburn, formerly of Belmont, passed away on Friday morning after a brief illness at the Aberjona Nursing Center in Winchester. The beloved husband of Mary E. (McDermott) O’Connor, he was ninety years of age. Born in Brookline, Charles was the son of the late Cornelius and Helen (Lynch) O’Connor. “Charlie??? as he was affectionately known by his family and friends was raised and educated in Brookline and was a graduate of Brookline High School. Charlie worked for a brief time after high school before entering the service.

In 1942, Charlie enlisted in the United States Army to serve his country during WWII. He fought in the European and African Theatres including battles in Northern France, Rhineland and Ardennes. That same year, Charlie married his beloved wife Mary E. McDermott to whom he was devoted for sixty three years. Following the war, they lived in Watertown for a brief time before settling in Belmont where they raised their daughter. During the early seventies, they relocated to Woburn which has been their home for over thirty years.

Professionally, Charlie was employed in the Accounting Department for Raytheon. In 1975, he decided to retire after thirty years of service to devote himself to his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren whom he cherished. “Grampa??? never passed up an invitation to be in their presence. In his leisure, Charlie was an avid reader, particularly enjoying books about history. In addition to reading, he followed sports, especially baseball.

Charlie was predeceased by his daughter, Charlotte R. Chute, who passed away four years ago, and several brothers and sisters,

He is survived by his wife Mary, son-in-law, Roy Chute of Winchester,grandchildren Cheryl Meaney, James, Kristen and Charles Chute, Elizabeth Fishlin, all of Woburn, eight great grandchildren and nephew, Robert O’Connor of Plymouth.
