Catherine A. Tally-Ho??? (Donahue) Sullivan, a lifelong resident and city activist passed away Friday, November 19th at the Lahey Medical Center in Burlington after a brief illness. The beloved wife of the late Daniel P. Sullivan, she was ninety years of age. Born in Woburn, Catherine was the daughter of the late Peter and Mary (Duran) Donahue. A graduate of Woburn High School in 1931, Catherine went on to further her education at the Choate School of Nursing. After completing her nursing studies, Catherine worked part-time, as a registered nurse, in the pediatric and ob-gyn units as well as the emergency room at the Choate Hospital. Aside from her career as a dedicated nurse, Catherine was devoted to her husband and their children and in later years, their grandchildren. It was most important to her to be involved with all of their daily activities. In her leisure, she and her husband Daniel, who passed away in 1990, thoroughly enjoyed ballroom dancing. She was also an avid reader. During the fifties, she became actively and progressively involved in CMARC, a program supporting people with disabilities. After her retirement from nursing, Catherine volunteered her nursing services for several years to the Woburn Rehabilitation Center and the Francis Street Nursing Home. During these years, she also became involved in Woburn politics, attending many meetings along with her sister. Tally-Ho???, as she was widely known throughout the city, would regularly write letters to the editor of the local paper questioning the actions of City Hall. She continued her writings up until a week ago, her last letter incomplete. As a result of her continued activism, she was awarded the Good Citizen Award from the Middlesex Community College.
Catherine was predeceased by her husband Daniel P. Sullivan, her sons Peter and Brian Sullivan, her brothers Peter, John, Edward, Joseph and Steve Donahue and her sisters Sarah Fallon and Mae Daily.
She is survived by her children Daniel P. Sullivan, Jr. and his wife Jeanne of ME, James A. Sullivan and his wife Nancy of Billerica, Stephen M.
