MILDRED “MILLIE” (TOOMEY) SIMONDS – in Woburn, Sunday, June 6th. Beloved wife of the late George E. Simonds. Devoted mother of Ann E. Hogan, George E. Simonds, Jean A. Courtney, Robert W. Simonds, Ronald P. Simonds, all of Woburn, Nancy C. Simonds, SND of Somerville, Thomas M. Simonds and James E. Simonds, both of Woburn. Dear sister of Albert Burbine of Wakefield and the late Beverly Burbine and Elizabeth Toomey Burbine. Loving grandmother to 22 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and her late grandson James Simonds, Jr. Funeral from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn on Wednesday, June 9th at 9:15 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn at 10. Calling hours Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Interment in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn. At the family’s request, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mildred’s memory to the Notre Dame Education Center, P.O. Box 1012, Lawrence MA 01842-9998.

OBITUARY:

Mildred (Toomey) Simonds, a longtime resident of Woburn, passed away Sunday, June 6th. The beloved wife of the late George E. Simonds, she was ninety-three years of age.

Born in Wakefield, Mildred was the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth (Teahane) Toomey. She attended school in Wakefield before moving to Woburn at the age of sixteen. Mildred distinguished herself as a self taught woman who wasn’t afraid of hard work.

A devoted wife and mother of eight children, family was the most important part of her life. She traveled often with her children and spent summers at Hampton Beach. In later years her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of her life.

Mildred was predeceased by her husband George E. Simonds, who passed away in 1971, her sisters, Elizabeth Toomey Burbine, Beverly Burbine and her grandson, James Simonds, Jr.

She is survived by her children, Ann E. Hogan, George E. Simonds, Jean A. Courtney, Robert W. Simonds, Ronald P. Simonds, all of Woburn, Nancy C. Simonds, SND, of Somerville, Thomas M. Simonds and James E. Simonds, both of Woburn, her brother Albert Burbine of Wakefield, twenty two grandchildren and thirty great grandchildren.

The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn on Wednesday, June 9th at 9:15 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn at 10. Interment in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.

Calling hours at the funeral home are on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m.

At the family’s request, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mildred’s memory to the Notre Dame Education Center, P.O. Box 1012, Lawrence MA 01842-9998.

    I know how much your grandmother meant to you. She was often the center of wonderful and humorous stories you would relay to us after one of your great family gatherings. She certainly has left her mark on this world. You and your family will be in our thoughts. Love, Laurie

  3. I knew Mrs. Simonds through one of my best friends Nancy Simonds her Grandaughter. She made me laugh so many times and she was a real character. I know that the Simonds family will miss her dearly. My thoughts and prayers go out to this wonderful family.
