VIOLET M.J. WORDEN – in Woburn, December 11th, daughter of the late Samuel J. and Eliza J. (Ralph) Worden. Beloved aunt of Carolyn Phelan of Norfolk, Judith A. McCall, John, Frank, and David Fader, all of Florida, and David W. Worden of CA. A funeral service will be held in the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Tuesday, December 16th, at 11:30 a.m. with the Rev. Derek Richenburg of the First Congregational Church of Woburn officiating. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Fox Hill Cemetery in Billerica. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Violet’s memory to the Billerica Rainbow Assembly #61, 11 Concord Road, Billerica, MA 01821. Late Grand Deputy of the International Order of Rainbow for Girls.

OBITUARY:

Violet M.J. Worden of Woburn passed away on Thursday, December 11th, at MetroWest Medical Center in Natick following a brief illness. She was well-known in the Masonic organization, having held several local and statewide positions in the Order of the Eastern Star and the International Order of Rainbow for Girls.

Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, eighty-two years ago, she was the daughter of the late Samuel J. and Eliza J. (Ralph) Worden. She came to live in Massachusetts with her family at an early age, and grew up in Arlington, graduating from Arlington High School. She lived in Billerica for a number of years, and later lived on Pleasant Street in Woburn for over thirty years, before taking up residence on Campbell Street in Woburn four years ago.

She worked as a secretary for her entire career with American Cyanamid Company, now known as Wyeth Pharmaceuticals. After her retirement she continued to work part-time in various secretarial positions.

Throughout her life she was extremely active with the Eastern Star and the Rainbow Girls Masonic organizations. She was a Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star #212 in Billerica and Past Matron of the Aletheon Chapter 154 in Woburn, Past Grand Deputy of the International Order of Rainbow for Girls, and Past Mother Advisor of Billerica Assembly #61 I.O.R.G. She also volunteered her time in the office of the Grand Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in Newtonville.

The Woburn Women’s Club was another of her affiliations. She was a former President of the group and was also very involved in the state organization.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews, Carolyn Phelan of Norfolk, Judith A. McCall, John, Frank and David Fader, all of Florida, and David W. Worden of California, many grand-nieces and nephews, as well as a host of friends.

A funeral service will be held in the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Tuesday, December 16th, at 11:30 a.m. with the Rev. Derek Richenburg of the First Congregational Church of Woburn officiating. An Eastern Star ceremony will precede the funeral service.

Burial will follow in Fox Hill Cemetery in Billerica.
