EDNA A. (CHAPPLE) WOOD – in Derry NH, formerly of Woburn, Sunday, June 8th, beloved wife of the late Robert A. Wood. Devoted mother of Gail L. Rossi and her husband Tony of Derry, NH. Cherished grandmother of Jason S. Rossi of Manchester, NH and Michael A. Rossi of Derry, NH. Loving aunt of Edward R. Finn and his wife Barbara of Jamaica Plain and Barbara Lauble Kearney of Litchfield NH. Grand-aunt of Barbara Ann Flynn of Hyde Park and Maureen Rose Finn of Jamaica Plain along with many great-grandnieces and nephews. Also survived by a daughter, Suzanne M. Smith and her husband Ken of Medford and grandchildren Robert, Amy and Adam Texiera, Joseph Pappalardo and one great-grandchild. Funeral from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn on Friday, June 13th at 10:15 followed by a funeral mass in St. Barbara’s Church, Cambridge Road, Four Corners, Woburn, at 11. Calling hours are Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Interment in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. Donations may be made in Edna’s memory to the St. Francis House, P.O. OBITUARY:

Edna A. (Chapple) Wood passed away quietly on Sunday, June 8th at the Parkland Medical Center in Derry, NH. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert A. Wood.

Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Thomas E. and Margaret (Fitzgerald) Chapple. Raised in Medford, she attended school at and graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy in Roxbury. As a young woman, Edna was very fashionable and modeled for Noyes Buick in Boston and The Lerners Shop in Jordan Marsh. In addition, she performed secretarial work for Warren Allen in Boston.

In 1954, Edna and her late husband, Robert, moved to Woburn where they made their home for forty-eight years. Among Edna’s many talents, sewing and cooking stand out. Edna made her daughters’ clothing throughout their childhood and her cooking was described as marvelous. She was also an avid gardener who planted a beautiful flower garden in the hills of their backyard.

Although devoted to her children and grandchildren, Edna’s devotion did not end there. She was extremely active in St. Barbara’s Church, taking care of the linens, teaching religious classes and helping out in the rectory. Her desire to help was limitless as seen also at the Woburn Senior Center where she helped care for the elders. Many of the fondest memories are of summers spent at Hampton Beach where Edna and her family vacationed every summer since the 50’s.

Edna was predeceased by her husband Robert A. Wood.

She is survived by her daughter Gail L. Rossi and her husband Tony of Derry, NH, grandsons Jason S. Rossi of Manchester, NH and Michael A. Rossi of Derry, NH, nephew Edward R. Finn and his wife Barbara of Jamaica Plain, a niece Barbara Lauble Kearney of Litchfield NH, grandnieces Barbara Ann Flynn of Hyde Park and Maureen Rose Finn of Jamaica Plain, and many grand nieces and nephews. Also survived by a daughter, Suzanne M. Smith and her husband Ken of Medford , grandchildren Robert, Amy and Adam Texiera and Joseph Pappalardo, and one great- grandchild.

The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn on Friday, June 13th at 10:15 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Barbara’s Church, 138 Cambridge Road, Woburn, at 11. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.

Calling hours are Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
