OBITUARY:

Daniel J. Brosnan, a longtime resident of Woburn, passed away Friday, February 28th at the Bear Hill Nursing Center in Stoneham. The beloved husband of the late Catherine M. (Geddry) Brosnan, he was eighty years of age.

Born in Somerville, he was the son of the late Patrick and Margaret (Fitzgerald) Brosnan. Raised in Somerville, Daniel graduated from Malden Catholic High School. After graduation, Daniel joined the Air Force where he served during WWII. Upon return from military service, Daniel was employed by the government at Hanscom Field as a machinist, a position he held for thirty-two years.

In 1953, Daniel moved to East Woburn where he and his wife Catherine, to whom he was married for fifty-seven years, made their home. In addition to being a devoted husband and father, Daniel was very involved with St. Joseph’s Church in Woburn for over fifty years. He was active in the church choir as well as serving as head usher. Daniel was also a member of the Woburn Lodge of Elks, B.P.O E. 908, serving as their Secretary for over ten years and honored as an Exalted Ruler. He was an active participant in the Elks activities such as ???HoopShoots??? and their Special Needs programs.

In addition to his many community activities, Daniel enjoyed canoeing and traveling, especially to Newfound Lake in New Hampshire where he summered for fifty years.

Daniel was predeceased by his wife Catherine M. (Geddrey) Brosnan, who passed away in September 2002; his brothers, Bernard “Babe???, John “Bing??? and Francis “Fran??? and his sister, Mary “Sis??? Brosnan.

He is lovingly survived by his daughters Diane Metcalf and her husband John of Woburn, Nancy Murphy and her husband Bartlett of Wakefield, his son, Barry Brosnan and his wife Pamela of Athens, PA, his granddaughters Melissa and Jessica Murphy and Jennifer Brosnan of Wells, ME. Also surviving are many wonderful nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Tuesday, March 4th at 9:15 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Joseph’s Church, 100 Washington Street, Woburn at 10. Interment will follow in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.

Calling hours at the funeral home are Monday from 4 to 8 p.m.
