OBITUARY:
F. Kendall “Ken” Cummings, a longtime former Woburn resident and well-known horticulturist, passed away in Andover Saturday evening following a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Grace L. (Seminatore) Cummings for over forty-eight years.
Born in Woburn seventy-five years ago, he was the son of the late S. Robert and Ella (Kendall) Cummings. He graduated from Governor Dummer Academy and received a bachelors degree in horticulture from U. Mass. Amherst.
A veteran of World War II, he served for three years as a Radioman Third Class in the U.S. Navy. He served aboard submarines USS Diablo, USS Quillback, and the USS Spikefish.
He went into the family wholesale florist business, S.R. Cummings, which was located on Woburns West Side on Cambridge Road, where he worked until the business was sold in the 1960s.
For more than fifteen years, he and his wife Grace had resided in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Coreen C. Kropiwnicki and her husband Michael J. of Andover, two sisters, Martha Cummings of Ft. Lauderdale and Roberta Colwell of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and his beloved grandchildren, Carrie, Kevin, and Kelly Kropiwnicki.
The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Thursday, February 27th, at 9:15 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn, at 10. Interment will follow in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
Calling hours at the funeral home are Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m.
