JOHN A. WATERS, a resident of Winchester for the past two years, passed away at Winchester Hospital on Friday, January 3rd, at the age of eighty-five.
Son of the late Donald and Estelle Waters, he was born in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin. He was a graduate of Northwestern University in Illinois. A veteran of World War II, he served in Northern France and England during the war. He was awarded the Bronze Star medal. After the war, he continued to serve in the Reserves where he attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
For most of his working life, he resided in Brooklyn Heights, New York, where he was Vice President of chemical handling equipment for Freeman and Company in Manhattan. He retired in 1971. His interests included music and theater, and he also traveled and enjoyed visits with his family.
He is survived by a brother, Hugh R. Waters and his wife Margaret D. of Missouri, a nephew, William Waters, a grandnephew, Robert G. Waters, his step-nieces, Julia Donk-Davis of WA and Lisa Lewis of CO. He also leaves three step-grandnieces and two step-grandnephews. Mr. Waters also left many friends and acquaintances in Brooklyn Heights, NY. In his two year stay at the Gables at Winchester, he made many new friends who were sad to hear of his passing.
Funeral services were private. Arrangements were handled by the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, Woburn.
