DiGesse – in Woburn, November 13th, Edward J., beloved husband of Joan (Cieslik) DiGesse. Devoted father of Eve DiGesse and her longtime companion, Paul Quinlan, Dee-Dee Smith, Joan White and her husband John, and Barbara Connell, all of Woburn, and Wally DiGesse and his wife Lisa of New Ipswich, NH. Dear brother of Edith Smith of Woburn, Joyce Cripps of Cape Cod, and the late Ronald DiGesse. Also survived by 13 grandchildren. Funeral from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Saturday, November 16th, at 10:45 a.m. Funeral mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main St., Woburn, at 11:30. Interment in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn. Calling hours Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Donations may be made in Ed’s memory to the Woburn High School Scholarship Fund, PO Box 202, Woburn, MA 01801.

OBITUARY:

Edward J. DiGesse of Woburn passed away at his home Wednesday evening following a lengthy illness. The husband of Joan (Cieslik) DiGesse for the past forty-two years, he was sixty-three years of age.

Born in Boston, he grew up in Brighton, son of the late Edward J. and Eva (Smith) DiGesse. He graduated from Brighton High School and served in the National Guard for several years.

Ed was a pipefitter for most of his life, working first for Bay State Fire Protection Company of Woburn, and more recently for T&J Mechanical of Newton, until about ten years ago. He and his family had made their home in Woburn for the past forty-one years.

He held membership in the Loyal Order of Moose and the VFW of Woburn. In earlier years, he managed and coached the Red Sox team in the Woburn Little League. He was also a talented woodworker who handcrafted dollhouses, wishing wells, arbors, and other items for family and friends. He enjoyed fishing and playing cards in his leisure time. He was devoted to his grandchildren, to whom he was their beloved “Papa.???

Ed was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald DiGesse.

Surviving in addition to his wife Joan are his son, Wally DiGesse and his wife Lisa of New Ipswich, NH, four daughters, Eve DiGesse of Woburn and her longtime companion, Paul Quinlan, Dee-Dee Smith, Joan White and her husband John, and Barbara Connell, all of Woburn; two sisters, Edith Smith of Woburn and Joyce Cripps of Cape Cod.

He was also the loving grandfather to thirteen grandchildren.

The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Saturday, November 16th, at 10:45 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn, at 11:30. Interment will take place in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.

Calling hours at the funeral home are Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.
