Leavis, Margaret T. (Bowman) – in Woburn, formerly of Cambridge, October 8th, beloved wife of the late Samuel J. Leavis. Devoted mother of Gerard J. and his wife Mary of FL, Judith M. Morin and her husband Eddie of Methuen, James M. and his wife Karen of VA, Paul F. and his wife Julie of Melrose, and William A. and his wife Debi. Sister of the late Rev. Gerard Bowman, SJ, and the late Ruth Landry. Loving grandmother of Kathleen, Caitlin, Matthew, Shea, Cole, Amber, Joseph, Ryan, and Sean Leavis, and Jacqueline and Danielle Morin. Funeral from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main St., Woburn, on Friday, October 11th, at 9:15 a.m. Funeral mass in St. Barbara’s Church, 138 Cambridge Rd., Woburn, at 10. OBITUARY:

Margaret T. Leavis, a longtime resident of Woburn’s West Side, passed away at her home here Tuesday morning following a long illness. She was the wife of the late Samuel J. Leavis, who died in 1976.

Born in Cambridge eighty-one years ago, she was the daughter of the late Dennis and Mary (Clasby) Bowman. She graduated from St. Mary’s School in Cambridge and continued her education at Katherine Gibbs School in Boston. Prior to her marriage she worked as a secretary at Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. After her family was grown she worked for a time at the New England Rehabilitation Hospital in Woburn.

A resident of Woburn since 1958, Mrs. Leavis was very active in St. Barbara’s Church. A talented seamstress, she made her children’s clothes when they were young, and she also enjoyed working in her yard tending to her flowers and her lawn.

In later years she most enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren, to whom she was devoted.

In addition to her husband Samuel, she was predeceased by her brother, Rev. Gerard Bowman, S.J., and her sister, Ruth Landry.

Surviving are four sons, Gerard J. and his wife Mary of FL, James M. and his wife Karen of VA, Paul F. and his wife Julie of Melrose, and William A. and his wife Debi, and a daughter, Judith M. Morin and her husband Eddie of Methuen.

She was also the loving grandmother of Kathleen, Caitlin, Matthew, Shea, Cole, Amber, Joseph, Ryan, and Sean Leavis, and Jacqueline and Danielle Morin.

The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main St., Woburn, on Friday, October 11th, at 9:15 a.m. , followed by a funeral mass in St. Barbara’s Church, 138 Cambridge Rd., Woburn, at 10. Interment will be in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Donations may be made in Margaret’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Disease Association, 36 Cameron Ave., Cambridge, MA 02140.
