Haggerty – in Winchester, Saturday, September 28th, Dorothy L. (Garvey) beloved wife of the late Robert F. Haggerty, Sr. (retired from Winchester Fire Dept.). Devoted mother of Robert F. Jr. and his wife Catherine of Stoneham, Richard A. and his wife Terry of Chelmsford, and Nancy E. Meehan and her husband Stephen of Reading. Dear sister of Paul Garvey, Robert Garvey, Geraldine Cantillon, Eileen Regan all of Woburn, Mary Doucette of Winchester and the late Jean Winn, Ruth Carroll, Nina Hall, Ralph and Austin Garvey. Loving grandmother of Richard A., Michael R., and Suzanne Haggerty, Kelma Dever, Patricia A. Dwyer, Sean R. Haggerty, Sarah D., and Jessica L. Meehan and nine great grandchildren. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Thursday, October 3rd at 9:00 a.m. Funeral Mass in Immaculate Conception Church, Sheridan Circle, Winchester at 10. Calling hours Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment in Wildwood Cemetery, Winchester. Donations may be made in Dorothy’s memory to Catholic Charities, 75 Kneeland Street, Boston, MA 02111.

OBITUARY:

Dorothy L.(Garvey) Haggerty passed away on Saturday, September 28th, at the age of eighty-four after a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert F. Haggerty who was a member of the Winchester Fire Department.

Born in Woburn, ???Dot???as she was affectionately known, was the daughter of the late Austin T. and Eileen (Riley) Garvey. Dot lived in the South End of Woburn and was educated in the Woburn Schools, graduating with the class of 1935. After graduation, she married Robert F. Haggerty Sr. and moved to Winchester where she made her home for over sixty years.

Living in Winchester, she devoted herself to tending to her families needs which continued right up to the time of her illness. Throughout the years, Dot organized “family dinners??? on Sundays, when her cooking expertise was enjoyed by all of her family and it would commence with her superb baking of an apple pie. Dot was always very active working inside her home with her many painting projects. With the arrival of spring she would move outdoors, tending to her flower gardens and her lawn.

Dot’s late husband, her children, sisters, brothers, grandchildren and extended family were her pride and joy and along with them she created many wonderful memories.

In addition to her late husband Robert, she was predeceased by her sisters Jean Winn, Ruth Carroll, and Nina Hall, and her brothers Ralph and Austin Garvey.

Dot is survived by her children, Nancy E. Meehan and her husband Stephen of Reading, Robert F. Jr. and his wife Catherine of Stoneham, Richard A. and his wife Terry of Chelmsford, her sisters, Geraldine “Gerry??? Cantillon and Eileen Regan, both of Woburn, Mary Doucette of Winchester, her brothers Paul and Robert Garvey both of Woburn, her grandchildren Richard A., Michael R. and Suzanne B. Haggerty, Kelma Dever, Patricia A. Dwyer, Sean R. Haggerty, Sarah D. and Jessica L. Meehan and nine great-grandchildren. Dot is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Thursday, October 3rd at 9:00 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in the Immaculate Conception Church, Sheridan Circle, Winchester at 10. Calling hours at the funeral home are Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Interment in Wildwood Cemetery, Winchester.
