Cowan – in Woburn, August 26th, Donald B., beloved husband of Ann F. (Corsetti) Cowan. Devoted father of Judy Antonio and her husband Don of Niagara Falls, Ontario, and stepfather of Dennis P. McCarthy and his wife Denise of Reading, Jane A. White of St. Croix, USVI, and Nancy J. Gavin and her husband Peter of Woburn. Brother of Grace Robinson and Frank Cowan, both of Manitoba, and the late Jack and Stewart Cowan. Also survived by 13 grandchildren. Funeral from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Thursday, August 29th, at 9:15 a.m. Funeral mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main St., Woburn, at 10. Calling hours Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn. Donations may be made in his memory to Winchester Hospital, c/o the Oncology Center, 41 Highland Avenue, Winchester, MA 01890.

OBITUARY:

Donald B. Cowan, a resident of Woburn since 1981, passed away at Winchester Hospital Monday afternoon, August 26th, following an illness of several months. He was the husband of Ann F. (Corsetti) Cowan for the past nineteen years, and was previously the husband of the late Catherine Cowan. Mr. Cowan was seventy-five years of age.

Born in Darlingford, Manitoba, Canada, he was the son of the late John and Anne (Stewart) Cowan. He grew up in Manitoba and attended schools there. He continued his education at McGill University in Montreal where he received a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering.

He worked in the field of research and development throughout his career. Most recently he was employed as a chemist at ITT Devcon in Danvers. Previously he was Director of the lab at Arnold Greene Testing Labs in Natick for ten years. Before moving to this area, he was President of NRD in Grand Island, New York, a research and development company. He was also a chemist at U.S. Radium of Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania for a number of years. He held membership in several professional organizations. Widely respected in his field, he was listed in the 1970’s and early 1980’s in the publications: Who’s Who in American Business and Who’s Who in Chemistry.

Since his marriage to Ann nineteen years ago, he enjoyed weekends at their vacation home in Weare, New Hampshire, where he had a host of friends. He was avid gardener in his leisure time.

In addition to his first wife Catherine, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Stewart Cowan.

Surviving are his wife Ann, a daughter, Judy Antonio and her husband Don of Niagara Falls, Ontario, a stepson, Dennis P. McCarthy and his wife Denise of Reading, and two stepdaughters, Jane A. White of St. Croix, US Virgin Islands, and Nancy J. Gavin and her husband Peter of Woburn; a sister, Grace Robinson, and a brother, Frank Cowan, both of Manitoba.

He also leaves his beloved grandchildren, Thomas and Stephen Antonio, Michael, Daniel, Connor, Kelsey, and Kyle McCarthy, Joey, George, and Patrick White, and Peter, Michael, and Olivia Gavin.

The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Thursday, August 29th, at 9:15 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn, at 10. Interment will follow at Woodbrook Cemetery in Woburn.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m.
