FitzPatrick, James J. – of Sandwich, formerly of Reading, August 23rd, beloved husband of Kathryn L. (Tirrell) FitzPatrick. Devoted father of James J. FitzPatrick and his wife Barbara of Reading, and John F. FitzPatrick of Dracut. Brother of the late Charles FitzPatrick and Catherine Butterworth. Also survived by 12 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Funeral from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main St., Woburn, on Friday, August 30th, at 8:15 a.m. Funeral mass in St. Anthony Church, 851 Main St., Woburn, at 9. Interment in the Massachusetts National Cemetery at Bourne at 1:15 p.m. Friday. Calling hours are Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m.

OBITUARY:

James J. FitzPatrick of Sandwich passed away at Falmouth Hospital on Friday, August 23rd, following an illness of several months. He was the husband of Kathryn L. (Tirrell) FitzPatrick for over sixty years.

Born in Cambridge eighty-five years ago, he was the son of the late James A. and Amelia (Donovan) FitzPatrick. He grew up in Weymouth and graduated from Weymouth High School. He attended Suffolk University and received his bachelor’s degree from Northeastern University.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the 66th Signal Battalion. He saw action in Central Europe as well as in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre of Operations.

Mr. FitzPatrick worked for American Photocopy (APECO) Company for many years, where he was Vice President of the Marine Division. He then served as President of IMP Boats in Iola, Kansas. He traveled extensively throughout his career and resided with his family in various locations, including Reading, Groveland, and Iola, Kansas.

Following his retirement he and his wife Kathryn retired to Cape Cod, where they lived in Sandwich. For ten years he worked for the Ocean Edge Resort in Brewster as a security officer, and eventually retired again five years ago.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles FitzPatrick, and a sister, Catherine Butterworth.

Surviving in addition to his wife Kathryn are two sons, James J. FitzPatrick and his wife Barbara of Reading, and John F. FitzPatrick of Dracut.

He also leaves twelve beloved grandchildren: Kelly, Jenifer, James Jr., Pamela, Edward, Kristen, Thomas, Lori, and Jesse FitzPatrick, and Sean, Michael, and Dawn FitzPatrick; and a great-grandson, Liam.

The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main St., Woburn, on Friday, August 30th, at 8:15 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Anthony Church, 851 Main St., Woburn, at 9.

An interment service will take place in the Massachusetts National Cemetery at Bourne at 1:15 p.m. Friday.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m.
