Sweeney – of Woburn, by accident, July 22nd, Charles L., Jr., beloved husband of Lynn E. (Clancy) Sweeney. Devoted father of Kerri L. Sweeney of Wakefield and Kelley Marie Sweeney of Melrose and her dear friend Robert Nickerson. Dear brother of Robert F. Sweeney of Revere, Janice M. Berkeley and her husband Dana, Beth Canada and her husband Daniel, all of Tewksbury, and the late Edward T. Sweeney. Funeral from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Friday, July 26th, at 9:15 a.m. Funeral mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn, at 10. Calling hours Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Interment in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn. Donations may be made in Charlie’s memory to The Seeing Eye, 57 Washington Valley Rd., Morristown, NJ 07903.

OBITUARY:

Charles L. Sweeney, Jr. of Woburn passed away Monday morning, July 22nd, at Kent Hospital in Warwick, Rhode Island, as a result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident. The husband of Lynn E. (Clancy) Sweeney for over thirty-two years, Charlie was fifty-four years of age.

Born in Woburn, he was the son of the late Charles L. and Marie (Canniff) Sweeney. He attended St. Charles Elementary School and the Kennedy Junior High before graduating from Woburn High School in 1966. He attended North Bennett Street Industrial School following high school.

He worked for the past several years for Ferguson Industries in Malden.

Charlie lost his sight when he was in his early thirties, and was very involved in supporting causes for the blind, including the training of service dogs. He also supported many children’s charities. He served on the graduate council for Guiding Eyes for the Blind.

He enjoyed spending time with his family as well as his beloved guide dog, Garlyn.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Edward T. Sweeney.

Surviving are his wife Lynn, two daughters, Kerri L. Sweeney of Wakefield and Kelley Marie Sweeney of Melrose and her dear friend Robert Nickerson; a brother, Robert F. Sweeney of Revere, and two sisters, Janice M. Berkeley and her husband Dana, and Beth Canada and her husband Daniel of Tewksbury.

The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Friday, July 26th, at 9:15 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn, at 10. Interment will follow in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.

Calling hours are Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Donations may be made in Charlie’s memory to The Seeing Eye, 57 Washington Valley Rd., Morristown, NJ 07903.
