ROBERT D. BURNS – of Winchester, formerly of Woburn, June 27th, beloved husband of Louise (McGann) Burns. Dear brother of Sr. Rita M. Burns, SND, of Windsor, CT, and the late John Burns, Arthur Burns, Mildred Kelly, and Olive Power. Also survived by a sister-in-law, Dora Burns, a nephew, Robert Kelly, and two nieces, Margaret Murphy and Mildred Kelly. Funeral from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Monday, July 1st, at 9:15 a.m.. Funeral mass in the Immaculate Conception Church, 79 Sheridan Circle, Winchester, at 10. Calling hours Sunday 4 to 7 p.m. Interment in Calvary Cemetery, Woburn. Donations may be made in Mr. Burns’ memory to the Campion Retreat, 319 Concord Road,, Weston, MA 02493-1398. OBITUARY:

Robert D. Burns of Winchester, a former resident of Woburn, passed away Thursday afternoon following a long illness. The husband of Louise (McGann) Burns for the past fifty-six years, he was ninety-two years of age.

Born in Woburn, he was the son of the late James W. and Ellen T. (Wall) Burns. He was a 1927 graduate of Woburn High School and graduated from the University of Vermont in 1935. An Army veteran of World War II, he served with the Americal Division in Guadalcanal as a medic.

For twenty-nine years, he worked as a clerk for Monsanto Chemical Company. Following his retirement, he went to work for the City of Woburn as a custodian in the School Department. He had made his home on the North End of Winchester since 1967.

He was active in the St. Francis Retreat Guild and the Immaculate Conception Church.

Preceding him in death were two brothers, John and Arthur Burns, and two sisters, Mildred Kelly and Olive Power. Surviving in addition to his wife Louise are a sister, Sr. Rita M. Burns, SND, of Windsor, CT, two nieces, Margaret Murphy and Mildred Kelly, a nephew, Robert Kelly, and a sister-in-law, Dora Burns.

The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Monday, July 1st, at 9:15 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in the Immaculate Conception Church, 79 Sheridan Circle, Winchester, at 10. Calling hours at the funeral home are Sunday 4 to 7 p.m. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Woburn.
