Wadsworth, Dr. James B. – in Reading, formerly of England, June 26th, beloved husband of Marion B. (Brink) Wadsworth. Also survived by a niece, Jennifer Chapman of Hingham, and a cousin, Ann Sargent of Chestnut Hill. A funeral service will be held at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 95 Woburn Street, Reading (see directions below), on Saturday, June 29th, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge. There are no calling hours. Donations may be made in his memory to the Church of the Good Shepherd, 95 Woburn Street, Reading, MA 01867. OBITUARY:

Dr. James B. Wadsworth, a native of England who had made his home in Reading since 1964, passed away at Winchester Hospital on Wednesday, June 26th, at the age of 86. He was the husband of Marion B. (Brink) Wadsworth for the past fifty-four years.

Born in Stockton, England, he was the son of the late Henry E. and Olivia (Hemingway) Wadsworth. He received his early education in England, and received a Bachelor’s degree from London University. He served in the British Army during World War II, and came to the United States in 1946.

He studied French at Harvard, where he received his Master’s and Doctorate degrees. His professional career as a teacher began at Harvard, where he taught for several years. He then taught at Queens College in New York for a year, and then became acting head of the Romance Language Department at Penn State. He was a Professor of French at Tufts University from 1964 until his retirement in 1981. He maintained memberships in several professional associations.

He lived in Woburn from the time of his marriage in 1946 until 1964, when he took up residence in Reading. Until recent years, he and his wife Marion enjoyed many trips, particularly to England and France.

He was predeceased by a brother, Ernest Wadsworth of England.

Surviving in addition to his wife Marion are a niece, Jennifer Chapman of Hingham, and a cousin, Ann Sargent of Chestnut Hill.

A funeral service will be held at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 95 Woburn Street, Reading, on Saturday, June 29th, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge. There are no calling hours.
