Brother of Paul Murphy of Chelmsford and the late Walter Murphy of Wolfeboro, NH, and Francis Murphy of Woburn. Beloved grandfather of Shaun, Denis Jr., Rachel, and Steven Murphy, Melissa Gonsalves, Stephanie Benoit, Autumn Murphy, and Darin and Dylan Kerns. OBITUARY:

Donald P. Murphy, a resident of Woburn for most of his life, passed away at his home here early Tuesday morning, June 25th, following an illness of several months. The husband of Carol A. (Maher) Murphy, he was sixty-four years of age.

Born in Woburn, he was the son of the late Walter and Anne (McHugh) Murphy. He was raised in Winchester and graduated from Winchester High School. He moved to Woburn in 1963, after he was married.

For twenty-eight years he worked for D.L. Maher Company in North Reading, and in 1986 went to work for the City of Woburn in the Water Department.

Known to his many friends as “Mokey???, he held memberships in several clubs in Woburn, including the Woburn Elks Lodge #908, the Loyal Order of Moose, the American Legion, and he was a social member of the VFW. He enjoyed traveling and vacationing in New Hampshire, and particularly loved spending time around the pool with his children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter Murphy of Wolfeboro, NH, and Francis Murphy of Woburn.

In addition to his wife Carol, he is survived by six children: Robert F. Murphy, Denis P. Murphy and his wife Angela, Laurinda A. Godfrey and her husband William, Nancy A. Murphy, Gregg D. Murphy and his fiancée Dina, and Dawn C. Kerns and her husband Darin, all of Woburn; his brother, Paul Murphy of Chelmsford, and his beloved grandchildren: Shaun, Denis Jr., Rachel, and Steven Murphy, Melissa Gonsalves, Stephanie Benoit, Autumn Murphy, and Darin and Dylan Kerns.

The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Saturday, June 29th, at 8:15 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Anthony Church, 851 Main Street, Woburn, at 9. Interment in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.

Calling hours at the funeral home are on Friday 4 to 8 p.m.
