OBITUARY:

Emily I. Brown of Woburn passed away here Wednesday evening, May 8th, following a long illness. She was seventy-nine years of age.

Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Mary (Cieslewicz) Raczkowski. She was raised in Watertown and graduated from Watertown High School with the class of 1940. In her younger years she participated in field hockey, basketball, and horseback riding.

She later lived in S. Boston, Medford, and Arlington, before taking up residence in Woburn, where she has made her home for over fifty years.

Mrs. Brown worked as a machinist apprentice at the Watertown Arsenal from 1943 to 1945, during World War II. For over sixteen years she worked as a cafeteria aide for the Woburn Public Schools. After her retirement in 1987 she worked part-time for Caldor, Lechmere, Market Basket, and the Woburn election polls.

She continued in recent years to be active in Woburn Senior Citizens activities and travel. An avid sports fan who loved tennis and bowling, she rooted for her local teams – the Red Sox, Celtics, and Patriots, and kept busy with her family and friends.

Surviving are three sons, Norman W. Brown and his wife Wendy of Dover, New Hampshire, Walter J. Brown of Woburn, and Lawrence M. Brown and his wife Debbie of Wake Forest, North Carolina; a sister, Helen Bennett and her husband David of Tewksbury, and a brother, Walter Raczkowski of Florida.

She also leaves her grandchildren: Steve Brown of Andover and Kayla Mae, Alexandra, and David Brown, all of Wake Forest, North Carolina.

A memorial service will be held in the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Saturday, May 11th, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to call at the funeral home Saturday morning from 9 to 10 a.m., prior to the service.
