William A. Keane, 74, a lifelong Woburn resident, passed away at his home early Tuesday, April 9th, following an illness of several months. He was the husband of Marjorie P. (Duran) Keane for over forty-nine years.
Born and raised in the Newlands section of Woburn, he was the son of the late John J. and Margaret (ODonnell) Keane. He was a 1945 graduate of Woburn High School, and joined the Navy immediately after his graduation. A veteran of World War II, he served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations in the last months of the war.
Mr. Keane worked as a building contractor for Rowe Contracting Company for twenty years, and later worked for the Woburn School Department in building maintenance at the high school until his retirement a number of years ago.
Bill was a fitness buff who enjoyed daily walks, and he and his wife Marjorie loved to travel. He was keenly involved in the lives and activities of his children and grandchildren, to whom he was devoted.
He was a member of the VFW, the Woburn Lodge of Elks, and the George Campbell Post 101 American Legion.
Preceding him in death was a son, Edward G. Keane, who died in 1994, and two brothers, John and Richard Keane.
Surviving in addition to his wife Marjorie are three sons, William A. Keane and Eileen, and David J. Keane, all of Woburn, and John J. Keane and his wife Mary Jane of Methuen; two daughters, Karen E Murphy and her husband Kevin, and Teresa B. Keane, all of Woburn; four grandchildren, Kevin M., Morgan K., and Shane P. Murphy, and Christopher Keane; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Friday, April 12th, at 10:15 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in the Immaculate Conception Church, 79 Sheridan Circle, Winchester, at 11. Calling hours are Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Interment will be in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
