McLean, William G. – of Woburn, suddenly, April 3rd, beloved husband of Barbara A. (McDonough) McLean. Devoted father of Diane Johnson of Sarasota, FL, Stephen McLean and his wife Laura of St. Petersburg, FL, David McLean and his wife Christine, and Douglas McLean and his wife Diane, all of Woburn. Brother of Margaret Gill of Woburn and the late Robert McLean and Doris Dorrington. Also survived by 7 grandchildren. Funeral from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Saturday, April 6th, at 9:15 a.m. Funeral mass in St. Barbara’s Church, 138 Cambridge Rd., Woburn, at 10. Calling hours Friday 4 to 8 p.m. Interment in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn. Late Coast Guard veteran, WW II, Late Budget Director, Commonwealth of Mass.

OBITUARY:

William G. McLean, a lifelong Woburn resident, died suddenly in Waterbury, Connecticut on Wednesday, April 3rd, after having been stricken while driving home from a two-month vacation in Florida. He was the husband of Barbara A. (McDonough) McLean for over fifty-five years.

Born in Cambridge 79 years ago, he was the son of the late George and Jesse (LeFave) McLean. He graduated from Woburn High School with the Class of 1940 and attended Bentley Accounting School. After serving in the Coast Guard during World War II, he graduated from Northeastern University in 1955.

Mr. McLean was an accountant with a private practice in Woburn. He also did accounting work for several local churches. For a number of years, he worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Budget Bureau, appointed as Budget Director by Governor Ed King. He also served as Treasurer of the City of Woburn during Mayor Gill’s administration, and as a member of the committee to form the Woburn Golf and Ski Authority.

He was actively involved in St. Barbara’s Parish, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister. He also held membership in the Woburn Lodge of Elks.

Preceding him in death were a brother, Robert McLean, and a sister, Doris Dorrington.

Surviving in addition to his wife Barbara are a daughter, Diane Johnson of Sarasota, FL, three sons, Stephen McLean and his wife Laura of St. Petersburg, FL, David McLean and his wife Christine, and Douglas McLean and his wife Diane, all of Woburn; a sister, Margaret Gill of Woburn, and seven grandchildren.

The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Saturday, April 6th, at 9:15 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Barbara’s Church, 138 Cambridge Rd., Woburn, at 10. Interment will follow in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.

    We know how much your father meant to you, and remember with fondness the times that we were all together.
