Cagnina, Grace J. (Scaleri) – of Woburn, March 11th, beloved wife of the late Jerome Cagnina. Devoted mother of Ann T. Buttrick and her husband Howard of Tequesta, FL, Jerome R. Cagnina and his wife Cecelia of Lynnfield, Joseph H. Cagnina and his wife Cheryl of Woburn, Robert D. Cagnina and his wife Ellie of Reading, and Valerie S. Bardascino of N. Andover. Sister of the late Josephine Natale, Mary Inglese, and Joseph Scaleri. Also survived by 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street (Rt. 38), WOBURN, on Thursday, March 14th, at 9:15 a.m. Funeral mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main St., Woburn, at 10. OBITUARY:

Grace J. Cagnina of Woburn passed away in Reading Monday morning, March 11th, at the age of 92. She was the wife of the late Jerome Cagnina, who died in 1982.

Born in St. Catherine, Sicily, she was the daughter of the late Enrico and Rosaria (Finocchiaro) Scaleri. She left Sicily in 1918 with her mother, her sisters Josephine and Mary, and her brother Joseph. They traveled three days by wagon from St. Catherine to Palermo, and then took a boat from Palermo to Naples and then Genoa. On a transatlantic crossing lasting twenty-seven days, Grace’s brother Joseph took ill and died on board ship. He was was buried in Ellis Island at the conclusion of the voyage.

She settled with her family in Woburn and married Jerome Cagnina on November 27th, 1928. Her husband operated a barber shop in Woburn Center for many years.

Mrs. Cagnina took great pride in raising her children and later helping with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to cook, and was famous for her Sunday dinners at which she often fed twenty or thirty people.

She held membership in the Daughters of Italy and the Ladies Moose, and was also a member of the Foresters.

In addition to her husband Jerry, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Josephine Natale and Mary Inglese, and her brother, Joseph Scaleri.

Surviving are her children: Ann T. Buttrick and her husband Howard of Tequesta, Florida, Jerome R. Cagnina and his wife Cecelia of Lynnfield, Joseph H. Cagnina and his wife Cheryl of Woburn, Robert D. Cagnina and his wife Ellie of Reading, and Valerie S. Bardascino of North Andover. She was also the beloved grandmother of twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Thursday, March 14th, at 9:15 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Charles Church at 10. Interment will take place in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.

Calling hours at the funeral home are Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m.
