Santos – in Woburn, February 18th, Joseph, beloved husband of Doris T. (Bettencourt) Santos. Devoted father of Doreen M. Cain and her husband Michael C. of Saugus, and the late David A. Santos. Dear brother of Rose Pimentel of Lowell, Margaret Grillo of Hudson, Sr. Maria Santos, Sisters of Charity, of Lowell, and the late Emily Grillo. Also survived by his grandson, Neil David Santos of Nashua, NH. Funeral from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Friday, February 22nd, at 10:45 a.m. Funeral mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main St., Woburn, at 11:30. Calling hours Thursday 4 to 8 p.m. Interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.

OBITUARY:

Joseph Santos of Woburn passed away late Monday evening, February 18th, in Lexington following a short illness. The husband of Doris T. (Bettencourt) Santos for over fifty-six years, he was eighty-one.

Born in Lowell, he was the son of the late Joseph and Sophia (Silva) Santos. He grew up in East Chelmsford and graduated from Lowell Vocational School.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the US Army in the Rhineland and Ardennes. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in the Battle of the Bulge while serving with the Third Armored Division.

Following the war, he went to work as a tool and die and gauge maker for Standard Thomson in East Boston and later in Waltham. He retired in 1986 after forty-two years with the company.

He and his family had made their home in Woburn for forty-six years.

He was preceded in death by his son, David A. Santos, who died in 1993, and a sister, Emily Grillo of Hudson.

Surviving in addition to his wife Doris are a daughter, Doris M. Cain and her husband Michael C. of Saugus; three sisters, Rose Pimentel of Lowell, Margaret Grillo of Hudson, and Sr. Maria Santos, Sisters of Charity, of Lowell. He also leaves a grandson, Neil David Santos of Nashua, NH.

The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Friday, February 22nd, at 10:45 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn, at 11:30. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Salem.

Calling hours at the funeral home are Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m.
