Connolly, Francis J. “Skip” – in Woburn, February 18th, beloved husband of the late Mary R. (Brown) Connolly. Devoted father of Linda Brennan and her husband Robert of Woburn and Leonard “Lenny” Connolly and his wife Susan of Plaistow, NH. Dear brother of Gertrude McCauley of Woburn and the late Ruth Decellier and Catherine Griffin. Cherished grandfather of Paul and Karen Brennan and Ken and Michael Connolly. Also survived by two great-grandchildren, Alicia and Noah Brennan. Funeral from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Friday, February 22nd, at 8:15 a.m. Funeral mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn, at 9. Calling hours Thursday 4 to 8 p.m. Interment in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.

OBITUARY:

Francis J. Connolly, a lifelong Woburn resident, passed away unexpectedly Monday evening, February 18th, at Winchester Hospital. The husband of the late Mary R. (Brown) Connolly, who died just a year ago, he was eighty-eight years of age.

Born in Woburn, he was the son of the late Frank and Mary (Lucas) Connolly. He graduated from Woburn High School with the Class of 1931.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the US Army in the 164th Engineer Combat Battalion, stationed in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater of Operations. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in battle, and also received five battle stars.

Before and after the war, he worked in the Charlestown Navy yard. In 1959 he went to work for the Woburn school system in the custodial department, retiring in 1972.

Mr. Connolly, known affectionately as “Skip”, was a former member of the Towanda Club in Woburn and a member of the VFW.

In addition to his wife of 54 years, Mary, he was predeceased by two sisters, Ruth Decellier and Catherine Griffin.

Surviving are a daughter, Linda Brennan and her husband Robert of Woburn, and a son, Leonard “Lenny” Connolly and his wife Susan of Plaistow, New Hampshire; his sister, Gertrude McCauley of Woburn; four grandchildren, Paul and Karen Brennan and Ken and Michael Connolly; and two great-grandchildren, Alicia and Noah Brennan.

The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Friday, February 22nd, at 8:15 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn, at 9. Interment will follow in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.

Calling hours at the funeral home are Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m.
