Edward C. Souza of Woburn passed away at Winchester Hospital on Friday, January 25th, following a long illness. The husband of Josephine M. (Ranieri) Souza for over thirty-eight years, he was seventy-four.
Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Peter and Mary (Corea) Souza. He grew up in East Boston, graduating from high school there, and lived in Revere before taking up residence in Woburn twenty-three years ago.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the US Navy in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre of Operations.
Mr. Souza was a plumber who worked for Massachusetts General Hospital for many years. He was a life member of the VFW Post 697 in Whitman.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Hilda Tricky.
Surviving in addition to his wife Josephine are a daughter, Lyn Newbury of Worcester, and two sons, Edward Souza, Jr. of Devens and Dean Souza of Billerica; a sister, Irene Matthews of Brockton, and three grandchildren, Christopher and Eric Newbury and Katelyn Souza.
The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Monday, January 28th, at 9:15 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Anthony Church, 851 Main Street, Woburn, at 10. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden. Calling hours at the funeral home are Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m.
