Marlun – in Woburn, January 2nd, Alice J. (Morse), beloved wife of the late John P. Marlun. Devoted mother of Carol S. Doherty and her husband John of Melrose, Nancy A. Legere and her husband Charles of Tewksbury, and Mary A. Stone and her husband Lee of Wrentham. Dear sister of Frederick Morse of Acton, Ethel Iannarelli of Maynard, and the late John Higgins and Mary Titlebaum. Also survived by four grandsons: Christopher and Michael Carpenter, John Doherty, Jr., and Matthew Stone. Funeral from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Friday, January 4th, at 9:15 a.m. Funeral mass in St. Barbara’s Church, 138 Cambridge Rd., Woburn, at 10. Interment in Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge. Calling hours Thursday 4 to 7 p.m.

OBITUARY:

Alice J. Marlun of Woburn passed away at her home here Wedmnesday morning, January 2nd, following a long illness. The wife of the late John P. Marlun, who died in 199, she was seventy-five years of age.

Born and raised in Concord, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Mary (Barrett) Morse. She graduated from Concord High School and received her bachelor’s degree from Boston University. She taught school in Concord for several years, and later was a substitute teacher in Woburn’s elementary schools while raising her family. She had made her home in Woburn since 1954.

An artistic and creative person, she enjoyed painting, gardening, and baking, and particularly enjoyed creating flower arrangements. She devoted herself to her family and greatly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and her nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband John, were a brother, John Higgins, and a sister, Mary Titlebaum.

Surviving are three daughters: Carol S. Doherty and her husband John of Melrose, Nancy A. Legere and her husband Charles of Tewksbury, and Mary A. Stone and her husband Lee of Wrentham; a brother, Frederick Morse of Acton, and a sister, Ethel Iannarelli of Maynard.

She was also the beloved grandmother of Christopher and Michael Carpenter, John Doherty, Jr., and Matthew Stone.

The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Friday, January 4th, at 9:15 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Barbara’s Church, 138 Cambridge Road, Woburn, at 10. Interment will follow at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge.

Calling hours at the funeral home are Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m.
