Rita B. (Curran) Ahern of Woburn, formerly of Belmont, passed away Saturday evening, February 3rd, 2001, after a lengthy illness. The wife of the late John F. Ahern, she was eighty- three years of age.
Born in Woburn, she was the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Nora (McDonough) Curran. She attended St. Charles School, graduating with the class of 1935. Following high school, she attended Burdett Secretarial College and later worked as a secretary for an ophthalmologist.
After her marriage, she moved to Belmont, where she lived most of her life. She was very active as she enjoyed playing golf, volunteered for the Democratic Party Committee and also shared her late husband John’s interest in yachting while he was employed as the yachting sports editor for the Globe.
In addition to her husband John, she was predeceased by her brother, Atty. Albert F. Curran.
She is survived by her sisters, Mary Perkins of CT, Anna Prindle of Woburn, and her brother Thomas J. Curran of Woburn. She is also survived by her beloved nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Tuesday, February 6th at 9:15 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn at 10. Interment will be in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
Calling hours at the funeral home are Monday from 3 to 7 p.m.
