OBITUARY:

Mary I. (Valcour) Connors died peacefully at home on Saturday, March 15th. The beloved wife of the late Henry J. Connors, Sr., she was eighty-seven years of age.

Born in Woburn, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary Valcour. Raised in the South End, she graduated from St. Charles High School in 1944. As a young woman, she worked at the American Mutual Insurance Company.

In 1950, she married her husband Henry, a handsome sailor from Winchester. Together they had eight children. They lived in several places in New England while Henry served in the Navy. They settled in Woburn in 1967.

Mary loved to play bingo and she enjoyed an occasional trip to the casino, and she enjoyed card games with her husband and friends. Family vacations were spent in Hampton Beach and Old Orchard Beach, and many Sundays were spent at her parents’ house in the old neighborhood on Pickering Street near Horn Pond, where she had enjoyed many happy days as a child.

She always enjoyed the company of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In her elder years, she was a favorite of her caregivers, to whom her family would like to express their gratitude. A woman who was quick to laugh, still sharp with her one-liners, and lived without complaint, she will be dearly missed by all those who knew her.

Mrs. Connors was predeceased by her beloved husband, Henry J. Connors, Sr; her siblings, Charles Valcour, Helen McMahon, Ruth Nilsson, and Joseph Valcour; and her grandson, Kevin Grady.

She is lovingly survived by her children, Susan Dawson of Stoneham, Stephen Connors and his wife Jessica of Brewster, Maureen Grady, Henry Connors, Jr. and his wife Kate, Michael Connors, Robert Connors and his wife Marybeth, Paul Connors and his wife Lisa, and Christine Hoen, all of Woburn, and her twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn on Thursday, March 20th at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn at 10. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
