JAMES A. HASTIE – of Woburn, formerly of Cambridge, died peacefully, May 19th at seventy-four years of age.
Jim was raised in Cambridge, son of the late Edward W. and Alice M. (Ghilardi) Hastie, and later made his home in Woburn. A graduate of Rindge Technical School, he dedicated many years to WR Grace, where he worked in many different positions throughout his career. A hardworking and loyal man, Jim was known for always keeping busy and could fix just about anything.
In his younger years, Jim enjoyed playing softball, hockey, darts, and cards. Later in life, he became an avid golfer and was highly involved in organizing and helping with golf tournaments. He enjoyed beach trips, camping, traveling with family and friends, and sharing laughs with his lifelong buddies. Jim especially loved gathering with friends over cards, darts, and a good steak dinner. A devoted Beatles fan and Tom Jones fan, he also had a wonderful singing voice that family and friends always enjoyed hearing. Always dressed neatly and known for his loyal friendships, Jim was affectionately described by those who loved him as “grumpy but loving,” a sentiment that perfectly captured his warm heart and unmistakable personality. Above all, he loved his family and treasured the time spent with his children and grandchildren, Old Men Rule

I worked with Jim at W.R. Grace in Cambridge, MA for about 13 years, a number of years ago. It was very sad to read of his passing just now. He had a way of keeping us all sane through challenging times and we truly cherished the professionalism and talent he brought to our team. Wonderful sense of humor and a great friend. Sincere condolences to Jim’s family.
