Obituary of Susan E. (Coakley) Jamieson

Susan Coakley Jamieson passed away unexpectedly on January 30, 2018. Susan was born in Woburn and spent most of her life as a resident of Woburn. She was the 2nd of 9 children born to Alfred Coakley and Pauline Finnegan.

She was a graduate of St Charles High School in Woburn and earned an AS degree from Northeastern University. She worked as a Supervisor in Radiology at Choate Hospital in Woburn before ultimately devoting her life to raising her 4 boys, along with her husband, Robert Jamieson. Sue and Bob had the love of a lifetime. They met at a party hosted by Susanís sister, Paula, when she was just 19 years old and they were inseparable for the next 55 years!

We are honored to call Susan our wife, mother, nana, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. Susan was truly a friend to all. Generous, kind, gentle, understanding, forgiving and magnanimous, Susan was beloved by everyone she met because she was genuinely interested in getting to know you. Susan had a knack for recognizing the best in each of us even when we could not see it in ourselves.

A champion for the poor, Susan, with Bob, quietly worked behind the scenes at numerous charities. She spent several years volunteering with special needs children at Joyce Junior High School and organizing walks to raise money for Woburn Friends of Hospice. Decades were spent working for Saint Vincent DePaul Society, where she helped local families going through hard times onto a more fulfilling and stable life path. The Catholic Church was always a focus for Susan, one that she passed on to her children and grandchildren through example and without judgment.

Susan will be missed daily by her husband, Robert Jamieson of Sarasota, FL and Woburn, MA, her sons; Scott Jamieson and his wife Heidi of Andover, Peter Jamieson and his wife Carla of Woburn, David Jamieson and his wife Danielle of Woburn, and Paul Jamieson and his wife Niki of Wilmington, her siblings; Paula Hazel, wife of the late Dr. George Hazel of Wakefield, Dr. Peter Coakley and his wife Kathy of Miami, FL, Christine Coakley and her husband Michael Dudal of Woburn, Deborah Tarby and her husband Joe of Woburn, Nancy Delande and her husband Mark of Woburn, and Jeff Coakley and his partner Gregg Tivnan of South Boston. And her 10 grandchildren of whom she was so very proud; Haley, Mandy, Kelsey, Julia, Sophia, Alyssa, Noah, Quinn, Jack and Sean. She was met in heaven by her parents, Alfred and Pauline Coakley, her dear sister Candace and her brother Mark. We will miss her optimism and cheer, her quirks, her love of old movies and music, watching her dance with Bob, listening to Yankee Doodle Dandy on the 4th of July and her Bloody Mary on Labor Day, her inventive snacks, her ability to find the good in anyone, her wisdom and guidance, and her spirituality. Most of all we will miss her unconditional love.

A Funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn on Tuesday, February 6th at 10:30 a.m. followed by a Mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn at 11:30 a.m. Interment in Calvary Cemetery, Winchester.
