Born in Winchester, he was a son of the late William and Florence (Coates) Magee. He was raised and educated in Woburn and was a graduate of Woburn High School, where he excelled in sports. He was a talented baseball and football player during his High School years and was noted for being quite the athlete. As he got older, his love for sports never diminished as he played football in the semi-pros and continued to play fast pitch softball, well into adulthood at Library Park. He was also and extremely talented pool player and won many tournaments.

In 1951, Spec's enlisted in the US Army where he served his country proudly during the Korean Conflict, until being honorably discharged. When he returned to Woburn, Audrey (Van Leer) caught his eye as she was walking down the street, and the two soon fell in love and married on September 26, 1953.

For many years, Spec's worked as a Milkman for Cabot's Dairy and then later as a bartender for the Towanda Club and the Winchester VFW, where he made many longtime friends and acquaintances.

Spec's was a determined, proud, truthful and trustworthy man. His nickname "Spec's" started years ago in reference to all of the freckles he had as a kid. His favorite time of the year was during the Holidays, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas when he would be surrounded by his family. In more recent years, Spec's enjoyed learning new things on his IPad and even showing the younger ones that he could use it as well as they could. Hampton Beach was also a special place for Spec's and his family as they would spend a lot of their summers up there, relaxing and enjoying each others company.

Along with his wife of 64 years, Audrey, Spec's is survived and will be deeply missed by his children, Edward D. Magee Jr., of Woburn, Beth Henry of Woburn, Allyson Knight, her husband John of Saugus; his dear sister, Lorraine Malloy of Winchester, and his grandchildren, Daryl Henry, Corey Novoa and Michelle, Daniel and Timothy Magee.
